Diabetes is progressing faster among the minority population than any other racial population in the United States. Remember many people with prediabetes have no symptoms. Addressing the disparity in how severely it affects minority populations, and the main key is early detection and quality healthcare among the communities. VMKF will host prevention and awareness events and assist with providing resources for quality healthcare providers for physical exams with diabetes screenings, wellness checkups, and connecting with a nutritionist to learn how to eat healthy to avoid blood sugar spikes. The foundation will also be giving away free blood glucose monitors, lancets, glucose testing strips, and alcohol wipes. We care about keeping our communities healthy and safe.

Diabetes and Prediabetes requires a medical diagnosis and that is why the importance of having ongoing checkups. Progression from Type 2 Diabetes is not inevitable. With lifestyle changes, weight loss, and medications, if possible, these things may bring blood sugar back to normal.
