GYNECOLOGIC OVARIAN CANCER PROGRAM

STAND UP FOR OVARIAN CANCER!

Our patient advocacy work focuses on educating and connecting people and communities to collaborate on solutions concerning screenings and quality healthcare. VMKF will work with the mission to identify and reduce challenges that individuals like yourself are having seeking care for their ovarian cancer. Each team member will strive to make a difference in the lives of every patient we serve under the foundation. Allowing patients more time to mainly focus on their medical recovery, reducing everyday stress along with insurance frustration and other unexpected stress and to ensure that financial pressures do not compromise quality care. By working with patients or their caregivers, VMKF takes the lead on some of the most complex healthcare challenges, and brings years of collective experience to the problem. Your main concern should be your health and recovery.

FIFTH LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH…

Ovarian Cancer is the fifth leading cause of death among women in the United States and is the deadliest of the gynecologic cancers. It is estimated that in 2019, approximately 22,280 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 14,240 will die from the disease. Ovarian Cancer is not an uncommon disease, occurring in 1 of every 78 women.

When ovarian cancer is detected early, before it has spread beyond the ovaries, more than 90 percent of women will survive longer than five years. Only 15 percent of women are diagnosed in the early stages. Fifty percent of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer die from the disease within five years. Ovarian cancer is often difficult to diagnose because symptoms may be easily misdiagnosed. This cancer is easily confused with other diseases because there is no single reliable easy screening tool. When diagnosed in advance stages, the chance for survival is only 45 percent.
